<P>廣州話近二三十年在香港的發展, 使香港話與其他廣州話流通的地區產生了相當的差異, 詞彙方面的分歧尤其嚴重。本詞典收錄香港方言詞語7000餘條, 其中三分之二屬於粵方言區所共有, 另外三分之一, 約2000條, 是香港特有的或源自香港的詞語。本詞典以「港式廣州話」 命名也就是為了反映香港語言發展的現實, 並顯示其有別於一般理解的「廣州話」 。<BR> 詞典對詞條的注釋, 在釋義以外, 並舉出普通話相應的表達方式, 例子力求接近普通話口語習慣, 方便讀者理解詞義。從這點來看, 詞典除了能幫助外地人了解本地方言, 還給學習普通話的本地人士, 提供方言與普通話對譯的材料。詞典還對香港詞彙的研究, 提供基礎。</P>
